RESUME,
This work examines the faces of the city and the countryside in Augustan period as presented in Henry Fielding's Andrews. It analyses how the city and the countryside are depicted morally, socially, and judiciary. Both the city and the countryside are viewed as place of vanity, prostitution, robbery, hypocrisy, injustice and superficial pleasures. This work also singles out the author's vision of the city and the countryside. The author sees the city as a loose place because it is full of many social ills and the countryside .The auther sees the city a a loose place because it is full of many social ills and the countryside as a good place because lif there is natural and simple.Written against the background of new Historicism theory, this work anchors on the hypothesis that the city is more corrupted while the countryside is less corrupted.
