Among the influences Kirundi may undergo include lexico-phonological ones from other foreign languages. This study was conducted in the province and two communes bordering to Rwanda mainly Bukinanyana and Mabayi and was intended to exploring to what extent does Kinyarwanda language influence Kirundi and whether does this influence impair the communication in contact situation. Data have shown that Kirundi variety spoken in this field work, contain some Kinyarwanda words. Some of them are entirely borrowed from Kinyarwanda to Kirundi variety spoken in this area of study while others are morphologically adapted.Beside this lexico-phonological influence, the research revealed that their Kirundi usage contain some Kinyarwanda phonology especially with palatals, glides, and velars. However, what is interesting, though the research shows that Kirundi vaiety spoken in the fieldwork show a certain influence, the variety is greatly mutually intelligible to other Kirundi users notwithstanding their geographical location and this influence does not break any Kirundi syntactic form of the standard Kirundi language. Besides, the researc showed that the users of the variety under study only accommodate to Kinyarwanda language as these two language work hand in hand, thus;there is not acculturation from to Kinyarwanda ER -
