The aim of this study was to find out the factors behind students' failure in the English state exami,ation.The study was conducted in Cankuzo province and the researcher investigated on the learning conditions,the availabilityof the materials and students' towards the learning of the English language. Three research questions and hypotheses were formulated to guide the study.It was found out that the students in communal secondary schools fail in English state Examination because the learning conditions,the lack of sufficient and adequate materials and the students'low motivation towards the lerarning process in English affect negatively the students' performance.The researcher recommanded that the Ministry of Education Should avail to schools required materiels. Parents should give enough time to their children for revision.Teachers should search for materials for their learners.
