RÉSUME,
The study was to asses factors that hinder the pupils' performance in the English language in communal Lycees. The study was conducted in Rumonge province. Data were collected by means of questionnaires and classroom observation designed for teachers of teachers of Englis and learners of 2ⁿᵈ Form arts in Buyengero Communal Lycées. Three research questions were formulated to guide this study. A total number of fifty subjects (pupils) and five teachers of English in 2ⁿᵈ form arts classes were used. Through this research, it was found out that the teaching learning of English to the required proficiency level was not being achieved because of unqualified English teachers, the lack of teaching materials, the oversides classes and pupîils' living conditions. A general conclusion and some recommendations were drawn and formulated by the researcher.
