This research is an exploratory study of problems encountered in the teaching and learning of the speaking skill of English Language in public primary schools especially in 6th form year.

A number of primary school teachers and pupils have been used to investigate it. In order to gather data from the sampled schools, the researcher used three instruments : teacher's questionnaire, pupils interview and classroom observation. The data from the questionnaire and oral test are presented in tables in order to facilitate the researcher to analyse them.

It was found that the major problem, that teachers and learners of primary schools encounter while taching and learning that particular skill are the lack of mixed activities, unqualified teachers and language interference with other languages.

This study enables us to give our contribution on what should be done concerning the findings of this work. Therefore, recommendations are addressed to different partners concerned with the domain of the study namely to the ministry of Education, the teachers of primary schools and to the further researchers in odrer to solve the problems identified.
