Nshimirimana, Gérard

G.B. Shaw and the question of gender : a study of Saint Joan / Lieutenant Gérard Nshimirimana; Marie Thérèse Toyi, supervisor . - Bujumbura : University of Burundi, Faculty of arts and social sciences, 2016 . - IV-73 f. ; 30 cm.

This work attempts to analyse shaw's commitment to challenge the fixed ideas of one's potentials on the basis of gender.Built on the premise that shaw challenge the patriarchal and conventional norms to respresent sex and gender as two different things,it deals with Joan,a simple farming girl whose leadership and military skills lead French army against the English.
It also compares Charle's and Joan's attitudes towards war and proves that sex and gender are two different things in terms of performance. Finally, this work sets out to show how Joan's deviance to the cultural and ecclesiastical norms in soldiering removes her from the simple farming girl to a saint and national deliver.

The writ"-up settles on the conclusion that Shaw's commitment is to stimulate women's consciousness about their unlimited potentials and to focus on individual and pratical involvement in the process of social status change.
