In this study " Factors affecting poetry learning and teaching in Burundi secondary schools a case study of selected secondary schools in Bujumbura municipality" the researcher tried to assess the problems encountered by both teachers and pupil during teaching and learning poetry.
Two kinds of questionnaires were used to collect the data:a teachers' questionnaire and a student' questionnaire. After gathering the data:it was realized that teachers encounter diverse problems while teaching poetry;the texts are difficult to understand for the teachers themselves;there is a lack of teaching materials about teaching poetry and the students'level of english does not always allow them to grasp the meaning hidden behind the poetic images.
On their part, the learners love poetry, but they are hampered by their language level. It was recommended that more time be granted tothe english course so that teachers can get time to explore this other aspect of the language and that appropriate books and materials to teach poetry be supplied to the concerned.
