People outside the university of Burundi (UB) are not aware of the existence of jargon in this Institution,sometimes they are confused with wha is said.The present work deals with the evolution of jargon at UB.This study aims at investingating UB jargon and show it has evolved between the Academic years(2010/2011 and 2014/2015).
This study was carried out in order to test the following research hypothèse:
a)UB jargons change with the time and context.
b)UB jargons are used for social reasons.The sample populations used is UB students;the number of the informations is 200 UB students.150 students were given a written questionnaire and 50 others were interviewed.To test hypotheses,survey techniques used: a questionnaire and an interview;therefore qualitative and quantitative data were collected with a questionnaire used as an oral and its written form.
After the study the researcher found out that jargon of UB has changed within this period(2010-2015).Some expressions disappeared whereas others were created.In addition to that,the study proved that social tensions and new technological materials push students to create new jargon words.There is a tendency of using those materials in their everyday life.
Finally,this research has shown reasons for which UB students use jargons.In this respect,we can distinguish:identifying their member and keeping secret.
