RESUME,
Our research is about < Teaching and learning the speaking skill in English.Case of Grade 9 of basic Education in Some selected Basic schools of Giheta commune" This work aims at assessing the impavt of using the communicative Approach in teaching and learning the speaking skill in 9 th grade classes of Burundi Basic schools.
The study attempts to test the following hypotheses: (1) the communicative approach has an effect on teaching and learning of the speaking skill,(2) the lack of time for teaching and learningis an obstacleto the development of speaking skill.
The study was conducted in Giheta commune.Six teachers and 83 pupils from 6 Basic shools of questionnaires.Besides,these respondents were observed through classroom observation,while the teaching/learning of the speaking skill was taking a place.This was done to find out how teachers and learners behave during speaking lessons.At the end of our research,it was noticed thet the communicative approach affects positively the teaching and learning of the speaking skill was teking a place .This was done to find out how teachers and learners behave during speaking lessons.At the end of our research,it was noticed thet the communicative approach affects positively the teaching and learning of the speaking skill.We also observed thet the learnners' attitude towards the speaking skill is positive.
And concerning the use of time,it was noticed that the time allotted to the English course in general and to the speaking skill in particular,is not sufficient to develop the speaking skill in 9 th form.To improve the teaching and learning of the speaking skill.recommendations were made in the end to the government ,the curriculum designers,the teachers ,the learners as well the future researchers.
