Since memorial times, speaking in proverbs is considered as a very convincing and traditional style of communication. Whoever speaks in proverbs is considered as a wise person with rich experience. Proverbs are parts of Burundian oral literature and contribute to the aesthtics of Kirundi language and help in shaping the society's well being religiously, morally, socially and most of all teir source of livelihood.<br/>So, this study sets out to inastigate proverbs concerning unity in work ana analysethe role of these proverbs in Burundi; with the aim of using a linguistic approach to identity people's beliefs and views about unity in work. It has been noted that no society all over the world has developped its economy without inspirind and sensitizing its population about solidarity.<br/>This study is based on the genral assumption that proverbs reveal our command of the culture since the refer to things we know and do, and they show our emotions and ddep-rooted desires. forty-two Kirundi proverbs about unity in work were collected from available collections of Kirundi proverbs.<br/>They were translated into English and analysed by means of Pragmatic Speech Act Theoty to identify their illocutionary force (possible effects) of each proverb. the people's beliefs, views and reactions in relation to the deeper implications and possible effects of the proverbs were obtained through a direct interpretation of some of them. |
