This work aims at examining the messages conveyed through Kirundi lullabies and show these messages contribute in shaping the behaviour of members of the society, In this light, we examined some of the themes found in these lullabies. We tried to locate theme in the contexte of the cultural and social experiences of the people. Therefore, this work evolves on the premise thatl literature reflects culture of the people and the culture is the basis of society. It further assumes that Kirundilullabies contain many themes which if understood can contribute to the improvement of the people's living conditions.In addition to this, the information that Kirundi lullabies insil into Burundians permits them to understand the values of a child in Burundi traditional society and transmit ancestral cultural value related to children to the new generations as handed down from generation to generation. To carry out the present study, the researcher judged to do an invistigation by collecting data. This was very important since such data have made it possible to verify the research questions earlier stated. Considering the value of Kirundi lullabies, the researcher made some recommendations :Because of many functions accomplished by parents especially mothers,nowadays the mother's place is occupied by baby sitters so mothers should tell them to uselullabies while soothing their babies and in this case mothers did many activities and contributed to the development of our country.<br/><br/>Lullabies should be recorded and played in classrooms. Thus, children should be asked to memorise lullabies, and be taught their values. In order to achieve this goal, we adopted the sociological approach to literally criticism. |
