This work examines the question of religion and science as presented in Albert Camus's The Plage. It demostrates how both concepts pose a great challenge to the people of Oran as they encounter difficulties which generate a misunderstanding between one another and which lead to the death of a large number of people. Our study equally explores the religious and scientific evolution that was obsrved during the first part of the twentieth century in Europe in general and particularly French. It investigates the fate of the people caught in the web of religious and scientific contradictons. It operates on the tentative coniecture that contradictions on the basis of Christian religion and sciences can only prolong the plight of a people. It further concudes that only a synthesize vision of religion and sciences can produce positive result to the problems man faces, that the two should complement rather than conflict. |
