RESUME,<br/><br/>This study investigates the link between race and culture and their role and manifestation during the Nigerian Civil war as it is recounted by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her novel.To achieve this,i try to find out first ,the manifestations of these socially constructed issues orchestrated by the 'white' men,that is, this mythical Whites' racial and cultural supremacy over the other races the impact that these racial and cultural postulations exert on the population as presented in half of a yellow sun,this study inquires the effective strategies and tools that can help overcoming race and culture based problems.<br/>Thus,this study is based on the hypothesis that racial and cultural differences in Half of a Yellow sun are the root causes of the conflicts and tragedies of the Civil war.Through the use of Stephen Greenblatt's New Historicism approach's tenets of practisibg a mode of study in which literary and non-literary texts are given equal weight and paying much attention to the historical and cultural background of a text,this study concludes that education,mutual racial recognition,love across racial and cultural boundaries,unity,cultural hybridization and African history-retelling are some of the means suggested to solve race and culture related problems. |
