RESUME,<br/><br/>The present work deals with the pragmatic analysis of some selected Kirundi proverbs related to the theme of selfishness.I investigated important elements necessary for a good understanding and use of Kirundi proverbs.This work consists of five chapters.After introducing it,views of different scholars were reviewed.The data were collected through an questionnaire and interview.Different questions that are open-ended and closed-ended were asked to respondents.The questionnaire was submitted to one hundred( 100) respondents from four communes whose age ranges from 50 et 80.All respondents had to respond.They provided intended and unintended answers.The goal was to seek relevant information about important elements which are necessary for a good understanding and use of Kirundi proverbs.The different answers to the questions helped to find out that even if the hearer and the speaker may change,the two sides have to share the same culture and environmental knowledge.The knowledge of cultural elements conrtibutes to a good understanding of a particular language hidden in a proverb.Then,through this research,it was also found that a proverbial language is sweet but not easy to decode.The context is a prerequisite for a good understanding of a proverbial meaning.For the proverbs studied,the context was provided by one person but it had to be agreed at least by 24 other persons (respondents) . A part from the context,the researcher have also listed some sources of elements which help the hearer or the reader to get the message contained in a proverb. |
