RUSUME,<br/><br/>This thesis aims at describing traumatic experience and ridiculous disappointment after independence by Kenyans as reflected in Ngugi wa Thiong'o's Devil on the Cross. Kenya continued to suffer the same colonial wrongs after independence. Our work tries to explore tools such as exploitation,corruption and violence used by the upper class to keep Kenya lower class bend under the yoke of hardship as captures in the text under study. It equally depicts untiring effort and strategies used by the exploited Kenyans to overcome these post-colonial wiles. This analysis is made through the use of Marxism approach. This study is based on the hypothesis that post-colonial wiles in Devilon the Cross impact on the majority of people who in turn confront the perpetrations through different ways. It finally reveals the reality that colonialism is not over and continues through another form of neo-colonialism, and shows that change is possible through the unity of the holy trinity of pasants, workers and students. |
