This work sets out to examine the racial discrimination undergone by black immigrants in the contemporary western society as seen in chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Americanah.It explores the racial descrimination endured by Blacks in general and immigrant studentsfrom Africa in particular.It shows how Ifemelu,based on the colour of the skin,their hair style and texture,their English language accent,etc.<br/>This study anchors on the premise that the practice of racial injustice in Chimamanda's Americanah proves that the Western Word is not the ideal land many africans dream to attain.It concludes that the discrimination blacks face push them to realize that Africa remains a better place for them.The protagonist's migration to American in search of a better to come back to Nigeria,yet a country where all citizens are treated with a relative dignity.Using Post-Colonialism as a critical approach,this study shows in the end that the better life af Africans is not found abroadbut in Africa itself.We recommend our readers to fight against all forms of discrimination and avoid any sorts of unfair judgement upon an individual. |
