Résumé,<br/><br/>Our work is entitled Journalistic activism in Tanure Ojaide's Matters of the Moment'. It explores the role of journalistic activism in changing the political regime. This is done by exploring the socio-political environment that prevails under General Ogiso's rule. His tule has been characterized by corruption, threat, arrests, killings, ruthlessness, power abuse among other evils.<br/>Through the journalistic activism, Dede Daro and his paper (The African Patriot) proved to be determined to expose the Ogiso's government evils. The African Patriot, under the direction of Ena Tabore, got the attention of the ordinary people and finally awakened the minds of civilians to stand and fight against Ogiso's wicked regime.<br/><br/>The Impact of Journalistic Activism was that that the people finally succeded in changing the political regime by getting rid of General Ogiso and his junta. This study aims at awakening political consciousness among the down trodden people via journalistic activism by which socio-political and economic reforms are built.<br/>This work is based on the hypothetical contention that the oppression of ordinary people by dictatorial regime can be beaten through journalistic activism. Written against the backdrops of New Historicism and Marxism, this work ends by positing that trying to suffocate the presses serves no good since journalistic activism later on wins over dictatorship. It is therefore advisable to avoid suffocating the press. In fact, press serves in establishing good governance and democracy. This work can serve a mirror through which Africans and especially leaders could realize the need to consider the conditions in which people live day to day by avoiding to oppress the media.<br/> |
