Résumé,<br/><br/>This work was a comparative study of African Americans' and black South Africans' experience during pre-civil rights movement and apartheid era.<br/>Based on Native Son by R. Wright and Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, our work strived to demonstrate how these periods have been characterized by the black struggle for survival.<br/>Furthermore, the study demonstrated that society that discriminates and segregates its members leads to its own destruction. <br/><br/>Tis produces robbers, rapists and prostitutes because every man's behavior is shaped by the society in which he or she lives. This study is based on the hypothesis that the segregated laws of the societies in Native Son and Cry the Beloved Country are self-destructive as the crimes committed affect both the segregated and the law makers.<br/>Because of those horrible conditions imposed by the segregated societies, characters in native Son and Cry the Beloved Country commit horrible crimes towards their societies and communities they live in or belong to. It therefore informs and warns societies in general about the bad effects of segregating one group of people in a given society. It then appeals for social unity and cooperation.<br/> |
