RÉSUME,<br/><br/>The use of proverbs is common for all human communities including Burundi. The present study A Progmatic Analysis of Some Kiru,di Proverbes Related to Humillity sets out to investigate how the proverbial meaning responds to context, the function of proverbs and their illocutionary force. Data were collected from Mugamba region and Bujumbura municipality by means of Focus Group Discussions. The analysis of data came up with some findings revealing that the proverbs related to humility respond to context change and that proverbs have changing functions depeding upon the situations of utterances. Moreover, I found that the illocutionary force of proverbs related to humility is, on one hand, to encourage the social virtues and, on the other hand, to condermn the vices in the society. Therefore, proverbs should be focused on, whether in linguistic or sociological researcher and they should be introduced on school curricula at different levels. |
