Résumé,<br/><br/>The thesis examined cultural and religious revolutions in D.H Lawrence's The Rainbow. This is done by examining first the lifestyle of Brangwens before Industrialization and the cultural and religious constraints in the industrial period.<br/>The Major focus therefore is on religious revolution in D.H Lawrence's The Rainbow and also the shake of the traditional church which tries to maintain people (women) under traditional values. After discussing religious revolution, this work examines also the consequences of both cultural and religious revolution in the Brangwen family.<br/><br/>Some questions guided this research : what are the main causes of the revolution among the Brangwens as presented by D.H Lawrence's the Rainbow ? Why are cultural and religious revolutions important in the context of the twentieth century in the Rainbow ? What measures does the Braangwen family take to get ready of these changes ? To answer these questions, this study bases its arguments on the hypotheticval contention that contempt of keepers of customs towaards the new generation especially women in their battle against patriarchal system, leads to serious problems : lack of mutual understanding between men and women, marital conflicts, sexual deviation and the nature of self-fulfillment in the Brangwen society. Written against backdrop of feminism, the work concludes that revolution in terms of culture and religion is normal and that revolutionists (women here) should not be traumatized.<br/><br/>Finally, the society should change its behavior towards new generations. There should be a change of mentality : revolutionist women in terms of culture and religion should be well understood.<br/>The society should encourage women to be educated in order to raise their social status and includes them in major institutions (economy, political system, family and religion). As findings, we discovered along this work that whether religiously or culturally, revolution begins in mental state ( a revolutionist one reaches first a step of critical mind) to finally be noticed : revolutionist actors start revolutionize first their mind and then explain to the mass.<br/> |
