A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree" Licence en langue et littérature Anglaises"
This work is made up of five chapters. the first is the general introduction which deals with the background to the study, the statement of the problem, the purpose of the study, the aims and motivation of the study, the hypotheses as well as the scope and delimitation of the study.It also provides the definitions of key terms.
The second chapter is concerned with the review of related literatures. If focuses and evaluates the views of scholars and researchers in the domain of pragmatics with the aim of referirng to their ideas to conduct our own research about analyzing sociopragmatically some Kirundi greeting expressions. Theories that play an important role in this chapter are based on pragmatic aspects.
The third chapter presents the methodology that was used in carrying out this rearch. It discusses the research environment, the data collection procedure, the data analysis procedure and the problems encountered.
The fourth chapter has to do with the analysis of the selected data on a sociopragmatic level. This chapter shows the kirundi greeting expressions according to time and context,
relationship and austin's Speech Acts theory. It gives the answers to the hypotheses on the basis of this research.
The fifth chapter which is the last is concerned with a general conclusion of this study together with recommendations.
