This work examines the concept of heroism and the fall of the hero as presented in Mazisi Kunene's Emperor Shaka the Great. The work aims at examining the heroic acts and contribution of Shaka to his society, Zulu. In the course of the study, the researcher will try to measure the innovations of the king in the history of the community. We will equally explore the fall of the hero. Shaka and the circonstances leading to his fall. We will base our analysis on the hypothesis that Emperor Shaka rules heroically and contributes immensely to the Zulu community, strict rule and constant warring provoke his fall. Written against the backdrop of New Historicists, Mazisi Kunene advocates to build a modern nation, and to secure that nation in the threatening environment of the enemies. This research revealed that the characteristics of a hero. He loses confidence from his people because of his negligence of their sacred rites. The study therefore concludes by recommending to leaders to save the people and society from destruction and lead them in an altogether new direction.
