This is a pragmatic analysis of some selected Kirundi names about God, Naming process has an important value in the Burundian society. The meaning of names about God can change depending on social context of new born. These names have a connotative meaning which requires going beyond the literal meaning in order to be undersood. In this study the researcher seeks to investigate whether people understand the cultural elements conveyed throught names about God and find out the intention of the name giver. The aim of the researcher is to provide the messages and symbols in some selected Kirundi names about God in order to be understood.

To carry out this study, the researcher used the population from Bugendana commune in Bugandana and Bitare zones. So, from a total number of 150 people, 50 persons of this population were selected randomly to get respondents. The only instrument used was a questionnaire and the source of those names was the parish baptism registers.

Findings enabled us to answer the following research questions :

1. Are Kirundi names about God easy to interpret without reference to Burundian culture ?

2. What is the people's intention when giving Kirundi names about God to their children ?

At the end, it was found that the ability to understand socio-cultural messages for the case of our topic depends on social relationships. In addition, Burundians can communicate more than they say rederring to implied meaning. They communicate teir worries, wishes, fear and other messages like cautioning their enemies and warning then.
