Résumé

This study sought to investigate how motivation can make English language teaching successful in Burundi. The study was intended to answer the following questions.

1. Is there any relationship between motivaton and teaching?
2. Can students' faillure results from poor services offered by poorly motivated teachers?

To answer to these questions, a questionnaire was administered to English teachers in ten communes of the Bujumbura municipalities. This was done to establish how poor motivation, in terms of remuneration, and poor work environment downgrade teaching of English. Results revealed that poor remuneration, that is money as salary, as well as other non monetary allowances, such school environment, teaching materials, the class size, to mention but a few, can motivate English teachers as well as other workers. The findings reveal that remuneration in terms of money is an important factor to motivate English teachers. The conclusion and recommendations were drawn and formulated in the light of the research findngs.
