Résumé,
This study aims at assessing errors made by Burundian learners of English in the use of propositions. Teaching and learning English prepositions is not an easy task, teachers'and students' efforts are required to reduce or avoid errors;
Errors made by Burundian students in the use of prepositions result from the interference of Kirundi and French language. This happens because there is no correspodence between English and Kirundi prepositions.
Burundian students misuse English prepositions and the problems faced are those of wrong choice, omission and insertion. Another problem is that of students' confusion of prepositions with other sentence units.
The importance of this work is that it provides the relationships between prepositions and adverbs, adjectives, verbs, nouns, etc. and the uses and meanings of prepositions. This study also provides the information on Error Analysis. It is also important because through it, we suggested what teachers and learners of First Foem Arts should do in order to reduce of eradicate errors that are commonly made.
It helps students of First Form Arts to prepare for State Examinations especially in the use of English prepositions. This is why to identify students' difficulties and the types, causes and sources of errors is very necessary.
