Résumé,
This work examined the road as an image in Wole Soyinka 's The Road. Drawing from the Yoruba traditional backdrop, We stuated the play in the context of modern Nigeria, and thus considered the road as a mirror through whch this sociey is viewed. The work also captured the ambivalent attitude of Soyinka who s doubtful about the future of his sociey. On this note, the work was based on he assumption that the road that Wole Soyinka talks about s not a simple path used by people, but is a prism through whch Nigeria in particular and Africa as a whole is vewed. Written against the background of semioics and symbolism theory, the work concluded that the road n his play picures life in Nigeria characterized by corruption,
