RESUME
This work sets out to examine how Ngugi wa Thiong'o satirizes the socio political and economic situation in a fictional Free Republic of Aburiria through Wizard of the Crow. It further explores the author's usage of different linguistic devices of satire. Il is basically based on the hypothesis that Ngugi wa Thiong'o uses satire in Wizard of the Crow to expose the ills in his society. The author uses different types of satire such as Horatian and Juvenalian in direct satire and menippean in indirect satire to satirize both economic and political systems. The new historicism theory is used as the theoretical framework within which the present study is constructed. The work also shows how the author satirizes the economy, the power and the different characters. It also shows how different linguistic devices are used for satirical reasons. In turn, these kinds of linguistic devices must contribute to stimulate a change.
