RESUME,

The purpose of this study was toinvestigate the problems faced by teachers during their teaching of English as a foreign language in basic schools.In order to achieve this objective,it was important to collect data and make classroom observation.It was carried out in Busoni Commune in 6 selected schools at ninth grade classes with one English teacher at each school.The study was conducted using a written questionnaire addressed to the ninth level teachers in those selected schools and classroom obsrvation.The research revealed that the socio-working conditions,students' negative attitudes towards English and the lack of teaching materials are the major factors that hamper the good teaching of English.It was from those problems that recommendations were made to all education partners in order to improve the teaching of English as a foreign language in basic schools.
Moreover,there is a suggestion that other researchers should provide the basis of further in order to explore the problems in other parts of the country.
