A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the degree "Licencié en Pédagogie Appliquée, Agrégé de l' Enseignement Secondaire en Anglais"

This study is an attempt to find out factors causing learners' pour performance inEnglish language evaluations in secondary schools in schools in general and in 5th form in particular.The study was conducted inGITEGA province,especially in five of its communes:Makebuko,Gitega,Bugendana, and Mutaho. One school was selected in each commune,except that in Bugendana commune,I selected two schools. The target populations were 5th form pupils and teachers.
Data from teachers and learners in 5th form were collected by the use of questionnaires designed to seek for information about the hindrance of good performance in English evaluations.As tesearch and an investigation of some individuals through oral interview.
Through this research,it was found out that tests or examinations are sometimes chosen from the material not follow lesson adequately and do not concentrate enough for tests.A general conclusion and some recommandations were draw and formulated by the researcher.
