RESUME,
English is taught in Burundi as a foreign language. Undoubtedly, the language was introduced because there is a need for Burundi to communicate in exchanging goods and services with its neighboring countries, in the EAC and the rest of the world. The study is entitled. " The Importance of Learning English by the Staff of the MCIPT in Burundi." Its main focus is to research how much the staffs of that ministry desire or obliged to learn the English language. The study was carried out in the Ministry which had 152 members in 2015, with different schools background. Among them, 70 workers were used as the research population sample. The data used in the study were collect by using a written questionnaire and an interview.
The questionnaire was mainly based on four themes. English for professional equirements, English for international contact, English for personal intellectual advancement and the promotion of English in Burundian institutions in general and in the concerned ministry in particuar. Those themes were chosen in order to have equilibrated information from all workers. After the analysis and interpretation of data from the two tools (questionnaire and an interview), we presented findings.
It was then found out that a great number of workers desire to learn English, if we refer to the answers given in questionnaire and according to the themes listed above. In this perspective, a number of recommendations were formulated to the members; to the curriculum designers, to further researchers and to the govemment of Burundi.
