RESUME,
This study, " Assessment of the Teaching of the writing Skill in Burundi Technical schools: A Case Study of First Year Classes in Basic Technical Schools in Kirundo Province", aimed at assessing the teaching of the writing skill in Burundi technical schools. The purpose was to find out to what axtent teachers and pupils are motivated to the teaching/ learning of the writing; if the time allocated to writing is sufficient and if the teaching materials are appropriate. This study used a questionnaire, classroom observation, written test and interview on a population sample of 169 pupils chosen randomly in eight technical school and 9 teachers. The findings proved that neigther teachers or pupils are motivated to the teaching/ learning of the writting. The time and materials are not suufficient, the latter being inadequate to technical English teaching. By the end of this study, the researcher recommended to pupils to join clubs where they could get opportunities to write in English and teachers need to teach grammar and currently used oral expressions, while course designers have to design a syllabus appropriate to each section, to increase the learning time and provide enough teaching materials.
