RESUME,
This study sets out to make a pragmatic of some selected Kirundi mothers' compliments.After the data analysis,it was noticed that it is impossible for some people do decipher the real message of the speaker through compliments .After the data analysis,it was noticed that it is impossible for some people to decipher the real message of the speaker through comploments.The expressions used while complimenting mothers are metaphorical and seem not to fit the circumstance.So,the background Knowlge of the culture for speaker and hearer is of great importance.The situation and context of use,and the experience of the hearer are verry important in order to successsfully interpret them.In addition,the speaker's intention is to comfort the mother who gives birth and consequently makes vivid the happiness of the safe mother.At last,the analysis revealed that the utterances uttered while complimenting changes the mother's minds positively.
