RESUME,
This work examines the dictatorship of postcolonial Nigerian leaders and focuse on the role of intellectuals' crusade in the fall of a dictator,as portrayed in Achebe's Anthills of the savannah. The study pinpoints the image of learders in their relation with the intellectuals and the masses .In this way, this analysis demontrates the reasons which lead the leadership of President sam to failure.
It further investugates the crusade of intellectuals like i kem and christopher who work against the dictarial leadership of sam. This is done by examining their efforts not only to sensitize the oppressed groups but also their role in the revolutionary movement. Moreover, the work highlights dictatorship in Kanga on basis of new Historicism approach and anchors on the assumtion that Achebe's intellectuals' crusade for a positive change in antills of the savannah leads to the fall of the dictator even though at the cost of lives. The research therefore concludes that for a revolution to succeed, the intellectuals must galvanise the masses to channel their energies egainst dictatorship.
