RESUME,

The present work deals with a semantic study of the sociolect used by the university of Burrundi students during the 2012-2013 academic year :The case of rihero and Mutanga campuses.The researcher makes an investigation to find out whether the students' sociolect respects word formation processes,the semantic change of words and expressions used in the students'sociolect and the reason of creating that parlance.145 students are treated as the subjects of the study.The instruments used to gather the data were questionnaires ,face to face conversation or observation and interview recondings.The data collect were analyzed semantically from the general meaning to the social one.The study revealed that the university students use the sociolect for their identity and secrecy.In order to adress the identified problems as regards to the university students' attitude ,the researcher made some recommendations to further researcgers on the sociolinguistic knowldge,pragmatics and psycholinguistics on large communities.
