RESUME,

In any society, no vevelopment is possible without skilled and educated people who can contribute to that development.This study then sets out to investigate on problems encountered by lerners of 7th form in the learning of English by comparing public and private Basic schools in the municipality of Bujumbura.The objective of this study was to contribute to the work of other researchers who have already carried out related researches.This study sets out to validate how class size has an influence on the quality of learning in English,what impact and how the adequacy of teaching and learning materials affects the quality of English learning.
In order to collect the data about the above hypotheses,two kids of questionnaires i.e. one for learners and another for teachers wre used.The findings revealed that factors like the lack of teaching and learning materials and the large class size are more remarkable in public Basic Schools than in private Basic schools and affect negatively the teaching-learning process and relevant to remmendations were drawn and formulated by the researcher.
