RESUME,

This study "Factors influencing school dropout in Basic schools,A case study of selected 7 Th,8th and 9 th Form classes in Gishubi commune"was carried out to investigate the reasons pushing basic school learners to give up their studies early.The following hypotheses were formalated for this study, 1 the learners attitudes greatly influence them to leave school, 2 the parents attitues and the family socio economic background push learners to drop out of school,3 the school location and the social environment highly influence learners to stop going to school .The study was conducted in 7th,8 th and 9 th form classes selected in Gishubi commune.In that perspective, the learners questionnaire,headmasters questionnaire and parents interview were used to collect the data.
Thus,the study was doneon total number of 201 subjects that is 146 learners,5 headmasters and 50 parents.After data analysis,the researcher found out that the main reasons which push learners to desert school are families poverty,learners unwiligness and demotivation to study,the high rate of unemployment for those who finished their studies earlier and negative attitudes of parents towards their childrens education.Linesses,undesired pregnancies and early marriages have also been mentiones as factors leading to scholl dropout.Finally,in order to fight against school dropout,recommendations were formuled to those who are directly involved in the domain of education,mainly the governement,parents,teachers,and learners.
