Résumé,
This work examines political activism and the collapse of dictatorship in Tanure Ojaide's Matters of the Moment. It proceeds to portray a society plagued by political violence, authoritarianism and undemocratic governance. It further explores the attempts of political activists to end injustice in a society haunted by greed and misuse of power. It goes further to portray what the author suggests as a better society governed in the interest and benefit of all. This work is based on the hypothetical thrust that people's consciousness, resistance, persuasion, discipline and determination are the key to challenge any ruthless regime. This study ends by positing that when a brutal regime collapses, much work is to be done to rebuild the society with a greater political democracy, personal liberties and social justice. This work is relevant since those who experience these difficult political periods may be able to change and contribute positively in building a better society. This work may give them a better grasp of their shared history and serve as motivation for future political activism and participation in order to build a free and fair country.
