Résume

The present work deals with a sociolinguistic analysis of the jargon used by fishermen case Kabonga and Mvugo fishermen's community. The researcher makes an investigation about that jargon to see (i) whether kabonga and Mvugo fishermen's jargon is understood by anoutsider to the group (ii), their objectives of using it and (iii) the relationship that exists between the literal meaning and the real meaning of the jargon words and expressions. This study was guided by the following research hypothesis (a) there is no any relationship that exists between literal meaning and the social meaning of the Kabonga and Mvugo. fishermen language (b) the jargon spoken by kabonga and Mvugo fishermen reflects their professionalidentity (c) kabonga and Mvugo fishemen use their jargon for entertainment and self protection. Anventory of 50 words and expressions was made to see whether there exists a relationship between a literal meaning and a real meaning of the jargon words and expressions. The study revealed that such relationship does not exist. Words and expression were viewed under their different domains of use. From there, the analysis proved that their professional domain comes ahead of others as the table proved it. After a deep analysis of the answers given by different informants, four main objectives of using the jargon words and expressions were given; kabonga and Mvugo fishermen use these words and expressions for (i) self and group protection or security since there are things the Government is fighting against (ii) gaining social trust (iii) communication facilitation and the entertainment.
