Résumé,
The present study's target was to compare factors that affect performance in the English State Examination between public Schools and Private ones.
The effectiveness of the study required the comparison of performance in English State Examination between Public Schools and private ones in Bujumbura City.
In so doing, four consecutive state Examination sessions were considered where it was noticed that Public Schools performed better than pivate ones in English.
Performances, being the result of different factors, research questions were set to investigate what factors may be behind that difference in performance.
Thirteen Schools, both Public and Private ones were used as the survey where teachers of English and selected students from those schools were given questionnaires. In the light of the research findings, it was drawn the conclusion that teachers' working conditions are better in public Schools than in private ones and that the teaching material supply is also better in public than private.
Finally, a number recommendations were formulated towards the government, head of schools, teachers, students and further researchers.
