RESUME,
The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the New English Programme in Basic schools in Burundi .The main focus is on the Programme of 9th form i n selected basic schools in Bururi Commune.This study was carried out with 60 respondents around,that is 50 students and 10 teachers in some selected basic schools in Bururi Commune.This research allowed the reader to see to what extent a good English Programme is advantageous for the teaching and learning of the English language.The sample of the population was done by using the simple random sampling method.The researcher used a written questionnaire and classroom observation as research instruments to collect the data.The sample of the teaching and learning of the simple random sampling method. The researcher used a written questionnaire and classroom observation as research instruments to collect the data.The procedures used to analyze data were processed,analyzed and interpreted qualitatively. The collect data were processed,analyze data were to read the answers given by all the respondents and look for that is common and what is not,in order to make comparison theme and question by question.Tables were also used to present frequencies and percentages.The researcher hypotheses were formulated as follow:
1°)The new English programme offered in basic schools is not well implemented in the classroom,
2°) The new English programme in Burundi basic schools in 9th form is not relevant teaching materials.
3°) The new English programme in basic school is not accompanied with relevant teaching materials.
After analyzing answers given by both teachers and students to the research questions formulated,it was proven false.However,the analysis showed that there is a need for adapting the basic school programme to the students' level and to provide adequate teaching/ learning materials.After,the researcher put some practical recommendations for enchancement of the effective use of a relevant programme and to provide the basic school with appropriate materials.
