RÉSUME,

This work intends to indicate the role played by the English-speaking schools in Burundi in the promotion of the teaching-learning strategies in writing; and is under the theme " A contribution of English-speaking schools in Burundi to the improvement of the teaching and learning of the writing skill in English: case of Discovery School Burundi". The data in this work are both quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed by using respectively statistical data in tables and some explanation on what we observed on the field. A sample of 80 students in four classes has been selected out of a population of 147 students and 3 teachers in the same classes. The instrument used to carry out our research is a written questionnaire, and the results of the research made valid our three hypotheeses set before. The research was conducted on the basis of three hypotheses which are the following:
a) Discovery School teachers and learners have positive attitudes toward the teaching of writing skill;
b) English-speaking schools in Burundi provide opportunities for improving learning and practicing the writing skill;
c) The use of appropriate materials can lead to the improvement of writing at Discovery School Burundi. As result of our research, it was found that English-speaking schools have positive attitudes toward the teaching of writing skills. They also provide opportunities for learning and practicing writing. In addition,it was found that the appropriate materials and use of the writing strategies can lead to the improvement of writing at Discovery school Burundi; one of the English-speaking school in Burundi. In the same perspective of an improvement of the writing skill, six sets of suggestions were formulated to teachers, learners, English-speaking schools, the government, parents, and to future researchers.
