Motivation in learning english as a foreign language

Motivaton is an indispensable factor in any course of action. Success in foreign language learning is more influenced by the way students are motivated. The purpose of this study is to determine the level and type of motivation (integrative and instrumental motivation) of Burundian military stdents in English language learning. Forty one students from Economic and Administrative Sciences Faculty and the Fundamental Sciences Faculty participated in completing the questionnaire reflecting their motivational orientations. The fondings of this study showed that Burundian military students are both integratively and instrumentally motivated, but integrative motivation is more dominant than instrumental motivation. With regard to these findings, recommendations for university authorites (ISCAM) and further studies are provided.
