RESUME,
This study intended to analyze hindrances to oral communicative competence in English among pupils in public basic schools. The population targeted by this study was made of 90 learners and 6 English teachers of 8th form in Muha commune where six schools were selected. We used written questionnaire for both learners and teachers and classroom observation as data collection instruments. After data analysis, it was found out that among the hindrances to pupils' oral communicative competence, we can mention pupils' negative attitude towards the English language in general and to spoken English in particuar and that has a nagative impact on their communication in real life. In addition to that, pupils live in an environment which is not concucive to improving their oral communicative competence. Another hindranc is teachers' qualification and experience which hamper pupils' oral communicaive competence. Thus, teachers and pupils as main actors in the learning process, have to be aware of the importance of using English for communicative purposes, therefore, they must make effort to achieve that goal instead of relving only on the mastery of grammatical structures.
