Résumé
The present work studies factors hampering the teaching and learning the listening skill in English in some Bujumbura English teaching centers. The research population of this study was the advanced learners and thei teachers. Sixty-four learners and six teachers were sampled and two English teaching centers were selected. The research instrumentused to collect the data was the questionnaire. The answers to he questionnaire items were analyzed and discussed. The it was found out that learners' attitude towards English affects their listening skill; the lack of adequate and appropriate teaching materials hampers learners'listening skill en English; and the unfamiliarity with the topics dealt in the classroom and native speakers'accent preven the learners from succeding in listening in these English centers. As result of these findings, some recommendations were made : learners should develop a good attitude towards listening course and increase listening practice in and out of the classroom; managers of these centers should equip their centers wih sufficient materials for the effective teaching; teachers should create a good attitude towards this skill and ask their learners to practice the listening skills outside the classroom.
